I have worked for over two decades in the industry, as a Software Developer and in recent years as a Software Architect. My personality is a jack-of-all-trades, so I tend to work on the full stack of technologies involved in a system. I am always curious to learn and explore new technologies, but my home is solidly in the world of Unix/Linux and AWS. I am fluent in Spanish and have traveled and worked on a number of international projects.

My experience has given me core expertise in full-stack web development and building REST APIs, data integration, database design, and development. I have extensive experience with data privacy and Information Quality, including HIPAA and FERPA compliance. I have the unique experience of having built a number of entity resolution / customer matching systems, which is in an interesting and important niche.

Most recently, I am working on building AI-native development workflows. Over the past decade or so, I have worked primarily with education data and state government systems. My focus has shifted to also include delivering content on the web. This still involves a lot of data integration and processing work (although now all on Linux and AWS), but it also includes building REST APIs, web applications, and microservices. So lots of PHP, Python, Javascript, and frameworks such as Laravel, Flask, Vue.js, alpine.js, etc. Most database work is now in PostgreSQL, MySQL, elasticsearch, mongodb, etc. I have built a strong expertise in automated testing with automated CI/CD pipelines as well as the use of Docker in development environments.

I spent the first half of my career building large enterprise data processing and data integration systems for fortune 500 customers. So lots of C, Bash, SQL, Perl, and Java on Unix and Oracle. Also a good deal of data modeling and systems tuning type work as well as a fair amount of DBA and sysadmin work. These systems generally involved ingesting customer data, integrating it across divisions or with external data sources, building data warehouses and data lakes, extracting data marts, building business intelligence and reporting systems, etc.
